Event #1 Getty

Getty Event #1

For my first event I went to the Getty. It has always been a mystery to me to what is actually the "Getty Museum". I was very excited that I got the oppourtunity to go because the property and the art of the buildings and the landscape was incredible. The view from the Getty was phenominal and it was something that I really enjoyed going to.

The art and the sculptures were made from real gifted people,  it influenced me and my mind. It really showed me that their is a key difference in talent and a gift. What it showed me was that people back then were influenced by the creation of art and what it would tell not just in the present but what they would paint that would last a million years. They would paint and sculpt because they believed in that what they could do is possibly help or change peoples lives, and see what they went through. Without the artists that had gifts with no traning to scuplt and have the imaginery sence to come up with a masterpiece, that is truly an art of its own.

The people that worked there were kind of rude and even when my girlfriend asked one of the workers if I would take a picture with them the lady said "No, im not looking good right now" and was kind of rude and walked away. But I found this gentleman and he liked baseball which was neat.

Week 3

The creation of robots have evolved tremendously. Robots aren't the sterotypical robots that everybody thinks that walk and act like humans, those are known as cyborgs as Professor Vesna talked about. Im referring to the robots that can be used as a device that can replace human efforts. These type of robots have affeccted our human society and have provoked industrialization and have also gave a lot of oppourtunities to make America very powerful. 

“Watch phones” have been in almost every futuristic movie out there.  The Samsung galaxy commercial explains how all of the movies and the commercials and have actually came true and realized that its time for a step into the future. My generation is the generation of technology, the cell phone, the camera, teh video recorder. Now adays you cant buy a phone without a camera programmed in it.  This watch phone is a huge step, not just for technology but also in science and art.  The phone company is pursuing there customers to buy this watch because it is the next evolution into the better future of connecting to people.

For myself, I believe that in the year 2020 we will have cyborgs that will be living in our homes and helping with people in our society. I refer to the movie IRobot which shows how cyborgs can develop a relationship with their owner and have emotion as a human would. I think to myself that can there actually be a possibilty and a world that I can live in that would have robots and potentially floating cars such as in sci fi movies I grew up watching as a little kid? Could this become grgeat for our society and economy or can it be a danger to all of us?

Week 1

Scientists have many traits in which should be held into todays society. For instance, in C.P. Snows, The Two Cultures and the Scientific Revolution, he explain, "They are inclined to be impatient to see if something can be done: and inclined to think that it can be done, until its proved otherwise." in which he also explains that artists are very patient and persistent in everything they do because they have to. They have to be creative, a huge role in society in how things can be done. Creativity is contagious but is primarily dormant, it needs a place to grow and flourish in order for full potential to be reached. Creativity is necessary for the present to help eachother grow within our society.

C.P. Snow thought there were two cultures, those who studied science and those who studied literary achievements. He also felt that this related directly to the gap between the rich and the poor.  When thinking about the perspectives of these authors it allows me to realize that I need to expand my knowledge and open my mind up to different styles of learning. Upon anaylzing this issue, I have been prompted to expand my horizens and reanaylze my point of views and expand my horizens on the cultural differences upon North and South campuses.
